I’m sick this week, so it’s the perfect opportunity for me to talk about my blah hair. I have boring Asian hair. Every few years I might change it up for a short while, but then I always slip back into my default style: mid-length, straight, and parted slightly to one side. If your hair looks nice, you don’t even need to wear makeup, and yet you can still look pretty fabulous. A nice cut can also take an outfit from good to great, pulling your overall look together.
The problem is, I’m lazy and, let’s face it, pretty clueless. I allow my hair to air dry at night, and I don’t even brush my hair in the morning before I walk out the door. When my hair looks even messier than usual, I usually tie it back into a ponytail, only to take it out again because I feel self conscious without any strands framing my rather round face.
My guy prefers my hair long (how original – what guy doesn’t?), and though I loved my chin-length bob from years ago, I realize I’ve got my entire life to wear my hair short. Long gray/white hair just looks weird. Before I leave for my three week vacation to Hawaii in July, I need a haircut, and I’m thinking I should get bangs. I want to keep it the same length, but I need some style, and it has to be low maintenance. I also have a pretty decent selection of hair accessories, but I don’t really know how to use them to boost my look. Any suggestions?
My friends like a guy named Charles at MessHair in CT. Just go and say, I want easy maintenance hair and do something awesome!.. and see how it comes out.
I’m in the same boat as you, although my hair is somewhere in between wavy and straight. I either have to scrunch it or straighten it. Lately I’ve been watching youtube tutorials of different ways to try to style it and playing with it. I am awful with doing hair, but I’m trying! I love that yellow flower clip and the little stars and gems! xo
Thanks for the advice, Neda. Phoebe, I can’t wait to see a post on the styles you come up with. I’m counting on you to inspire me to step out of the ‘boring box!’
what are those shiney star thingies… I am like a bird…I see something shiney and star-shaped and instantly I get distracted!
I am the same way…Show me the bling, forget everything! Those star and flower things are little hair gems that stick on with velcro. I have them left over from like junior high school HAHA. But if we’ve learned anything by now, it’s that fashion always comes full circle….hoping that applies to these!
oh yeah, I remember those!!! have you ever tried washing your hair and braiding it wet. then sleeping on the braids and unraveling them in the morning? does it stay wavy? sorry if I sound “ignant” but I have super curly hair so I don’t have experience with straight hair LOL
I have braided wet hair and slept on it a few times. It stays awhile, but then it gradually straightens out to its natural form throughout the day. SUCKS! Lucky you; I wish I had some natural curls or at least some waves, but it’s unnatural to my peoples, ha!
